The story behind afriwave
Our Approach to Swimming Lessons
At Afriwave Swim Club, we believe swimming is more than a sport. It is a practical life skill that can support confidence, physical activity and a healthier living when done right. Our aim is to make the learning process welcoming, purposeful and rewarding for every swimmer we serve.

Our story.
Afriwave Swim Club was created to help everyone access swimming instruction that is encouraging, structured and focused on real learning. We work with swimmers at different stages, helping them understand what they are practising, why it matters and what they can work towards next.
Our mission
To help children and adults develop practical swimming skills, water awareness and confidence through supportive instruction and consistent practice.
Our vision
A community where more people have the opportunity to learn to swim, grow in confidence and approach water with greater awareness and respect.
Our values
Value: What it means in practice
Safety-minded: We treat water awareness, appropriate supervision and clear expectations as essential parts of the learning experience.
Encouragement: We create room for questions, mistakes and progress without embarrassment or unnecessary pressure.
Progress: We focus on achievable skills and the next step in a learner’s journey.
Respect: We respect each swimmer’s age, experience, comfort level and individual learning needs.
Consistency: We encourage practice, attendance and communication as part of learning.
Our Approach to Learning
We begin by understanding the swimmer’s current experience and goals. Lessons can then focus on appropriate fundamentals, such as comfort in the water, breathing, floating, body position, movement and stroke technique, depending on the learner’s stage and the programme offered.
Progress is not always linear. Confidence may develop at a different pace from physical technique, and learners may need repetition before a skill feels familiar. We encourage steady practice and clear communication between the swimmer, instructor and parent or guardian where relevant.
